ppwreu.org is an independent publication on packaging sustainability and packaging regulation, focused on the European Union and the United States. It is based in the Netherlands.
It’s written for the people doing the work: packaging engineers and designers, sustainability and regulatory managers, procurement teams, brand owners, converters and retailers.
ppwreu.org is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the European Union, the European Commission or any EU institution. The name refers to the subject we cover: the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2025/40.
What we cover
- News. What changed this week in EU and US packaging policy, materials and industry, and what it means in practice.
- Analysis. One development at a time, in depth, with facts and interpretation kept clearly apart. Plus explainers on the PPWR topics teams most need to get right.
- Inspiration. Real redesigns that reduced waste or improved recyclability, with the trade-offs included.
- Tools & AI. The digital tools, dashboards and AI that can help, and where they fall short.
Who runs this
I’m OBY (he/him), editor of ppwreu.org.
I’ve spent more than 21 years in packaging R&D and supply chain, including leading global packaging teams in the FMCG industry, and I hold granted packaging patents. That’s long enough to know the difference between a regulation on paper and a packaging line on a Monday morning. This site tries to bridge the two.
How the articles get written
Drafts are produced with AI assistance from news published worldwide, then reviewed and edited by me before anything goes live. Every article links to its sources. The full process is on the Editorial Policy page.
